The Department of M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (5 Year Integrated) at Sri Sairam Engineering College conducted a two-day bootcamp on Mobile Application Development, powered by Virtusa. The session, led by Mr. Venkatesan G, Lead Software Engineer, provided hands-on insights into modern app development practices. A total of 49 students participated, actively engaging in the sessions and gaining practical exposure, making the event impactful in enhancing their technical skills and interest in the field.

Day 1 Summary :

Day 1 focused on building a strong foundation for effective learning and understanding the fundamentals of mobile application development. The session began with an engaging discussion on how we remember what we study, emphasizing techniques like active recall, spaced repetition, and practical application to improve retention and long-term understanding. Participants were then introduced to the basics of mobile app development, including an overview of platforms such as Android and iOS, development environments, and essential programming concepts. The speaker also provided a clear roadmap for becoming a mobile developer, guiding students through key stages like learning programming languages, understanding UI/UX design, working with frameworks, and building real-world projects. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions and actively participate. Overall, Day 1 set a strong conceptual base, motivated learners, and gave them a structured direction to begin their journey in mobile application development.

Day 2 Summary :

Day 2 focused on hands-on implementation and real-world application development using modern tools. Participants used Cursor AI to design and build the front end, while also learning to create and integrate REST APIs for the backend. The session introduced Neon DB as a scalable database solution, helping students understand efficient data handling and storage. A major highlight was the emphasis on the development workflow, where students were guided through each stage—from idea formation and planning to execution and deployment. The mentor provided continuous support, encouraging a structured approach to problem-solving and application design. More focus was given to how to build projects step-by-step, rather than just theoretical concepts. Through interactive learning and mentorship, students gained clarity on developing complete applications, improving their confidence and readiness to work on real-time projects independently.
